SANE ECHO

The care of sexual assault victims is primarily addressed by emergency department staff in collaboration with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE’S), a specialty forensic nursing role. SANE’s complete didactic and clinical education and adhere to guidelines for care created by the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). Specialty certification is available for both the Adult/Adolescent examiner (SANE-A) as well as the Pediatric examiner (SANE-P).
University Hospital is a SAFE Center of Excellence, as designated by the NYS Department of Health, and SANE’s are available around the clock to respond to care for all acute victims of sexual assault at both campuses.
It is our hope that a network to connect SANE’s across the state, allowing for education and case sharing, can be fulfilled through the SANE TeleECHO.
